The Facilitator Model: Why It Works

The key to effective school teletherapy is a trained facilitator in the room with the student. This person provides the hands-on support that the remote therapist directs , making virtually every service deliverable via video.

Trained On-Site Support

A facilitator, paraprofessional, classroom aide, or school staff member, sits with the student during sessions. They manage materials, position devices, and provide the hands-on support the therapist directs in real time.

We Train Them for Free

ACT provides facilitator training at no additional cost to the district. Training covers session setup, material handling, student support techniques, and communication with the therapist.

Technology Setup

All your district needs is a Chromebook, laptop, or tablet with internet access and a quiet space. We use HIPAA-compliant video platforms that work within school network firewalls. No special software to install.

Facilitator Assignment & Training

Your district assigns a facilitator for each session, typically a paraprofessional or aide already on staff. ACT trains them (free of charge) on how to support sessions effectively.

Therapy Sessions

Sessions are 20-60 minutes depending on the IEP. Our therapists use interactive, evidence-based digital materials designed for engagement, not a camera pointed at worksheets. The facilitator provides hands-on support as the therapist directs.

Documentation & Reporting

Session notes are completed the same day. Monthly progress reports track student outcomes against IEP goals. Your district receives utilization data and compliance dashboards, all audit-ready.

Preschool (Ages 3-5)

Effective

With a trained facilitator or caregiver in the room, preschool teletherapy is effective for language intervention, early communication skills, and social engagement. The facilitator provides hands-on support while the therapist directs activities and models techniques in real time.

Elementary (K-5, Ages 5-11)

Strong

The sweet spot for school teletherapy. Articulation, language, fluency, social communication, and OT visual-motor services all deliver strong outcomes via tele. This is our largest school-based population.

Middle School (6-8, Ages 11-14)

Very Strong

Students are independent and technology-fluent. Teletherapy works well for all SLP and OT services. Social communication and pragmatic language therapy is naturally suited to the video format.

High School (9-12, Ages 14-21)

Excellent

Ideal for teletherapy. Transition-age students benefit from the virtual format for social communication, vocational skills, self-advocacy, and AAC. Many students prefer the privacy of virtual sessions.

Regulatory Status

Teletherapy is permitted in schools in all three of our primary states (CA, TX, NV) and 37 states total. Medicaid reimburses teletherapy in all three states. California's AB 130 Medi-Cal expansion creates a strong billing incentive for districts using teletherapy services.
